Emily Pavlovic Chiles' Biography

Born in Texas in 1952, Emily Pavlovic Chiles was exposed to the arts early with her involvement in the Midland Community Theatre. Her love of expressive brushstrokes got its start when she painted sets, using large brushes and huge canvases. She went on to major in Theatre where she designed and built sets, acted, and directed plays. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Theatre from Skidmore College in 1974.

Emily Chiles enjoys painting with oils to create inviting landscapes and dramatic subjects such as oversize portraits of lilies. She uses vivid colors to further enhance the appeal of her paintings. Her broad brushstrokes aim to capture the memory in an almost mirage effect that allows the viewer to fill in the gaps how they choose.

Emily started painting in 2016 under the tutelage of Steve Parker of the Art League of Houston. Her favored medium is oil, but she also paints with gouache and acrylic. She enjoys painting “Plein air” since it reminds her of her camping days as a Girl Scout. In our ever chaotic world, Emily aims to create works that are restful and bring peace to the viewer. Her studio is located at The Woodlands Art Gallery and Studios in The Woodlands, Texas where she is the current Artist-In-Residence.
