Painting allows me to express a range of emotions. Abstract painting, in particular, allows me to translate my experiences, past and present. I achieve powerful shapes, dramatically pouring, swirling, and scraping paint on a canvas. The negative spaces are as powerful as the painted shapes, too. The juxtaposition of hard edges against the rounded, softer shapes creates added emphasis to each piece.
I apply tape of various widths and lengths to the stretched canvas to deliberately preserve the pristine white canvas before applying the paint. I scrape with gusto, following through with great physicality. Black and white are the bones of the composition. I apply color to add to the story: red, aqua, yellow, copper, et al. Each layer has its own meaning.
My paintings symbolize the art of evolution. Clean beginnings preserved against the chaos and control of the universe.
